Iran Calls for ‘Serious Review’ of Gulf Relations Amid US-Israel Conflict
Iran Signals Review of Gulf Relations
Amid rising tensions caused by the ongoing conflict involving the United States, Israel, and Iran, Iranian officials have suggested that relations between Tehran and Gulf Arab states may need to undergo a “serious review.”
The statement was made by Alireza Enayati, Iran’s ambassador to Saudi Arabia, in comments addressing the impact of the current regional conflict on diplomatic relations.
According to the envoy, the growing tensions in the Middle East highlight the need for stronger regional cooperation and reduced dependence on external powers.
Iran and Saudi Arabia Remain Key Neighbours
Despite the challenges created by the conflict, the Iranian ambassador emphasized that Iran and Saudi Arabia remain inseparable neighbours that must maintain dialogue and cooperation.
Enayati stated that the two countries cannot ignore each other’s importance in maintaining stability across the region.
He explained that decades of regional instability have been caused partly by policies that excluded certain countries and relied heavily on outside powers for security and political influence.
According to him, the region must move toward a more balanced approach that encourages cooperation among neighboring countries.
Iran Denies Role in Attacks on Saudi Oil Facilities
The Iranian envoy also rejected accusations linking Tehran to recent attacks on Saudi Arabia’s oil infrastructure.
Some of the reported incidents included damage at the Ras Tanura Refinery and attempted drone strikes targeting the Shaybah Oil Field near the border with the United Arab Emirates.
Enayati strongly denied that Iran was responsible for these attacks. He stated that if Iran had been involved in such operations, the country would have openly acknowledged its actions.
However, the envoy did not identify any other group or actor responsible for the incidents.
Diplomatic Contacts Continue
Despite the tensions, the ambassador indicated that communication between Tehran and Riyadh continues.
He said that relations between the two countries are progressing normally in certain areas of cooperation. These include facilitating travel arrangements for Iranian pilgrims traveling to Saudi Arabia and providing medical assistance where necessary.
Iranian officials have also reportedly been discussing security guarantees with Saudi authorities, including assurances that Saudi territory will not be used for attacks against Iran.
Regional Impact of the War
The conflict involving the United States and Israel has created growing concern among countries across the Gulf region.
Iranian officials argue that the war has been imposed on the region and risks destabilizing the Middle East if it continues.
Tehran has repeatedly called for an immediate halt to military operations targeting Iranian territory.
Call for Regional Cooperation
The Iranian envoy stressed that long-term stability in the Middle East will depend on cooperation among regional countries rather than external intervention.
He argued that Gulf nations should avoid becoming directly involved in the conflict and instead focus on maintaining peace and stability.
According to Enayati, international guarantees may also be necessary to ensure that future disputes are resolved through diplomatic means rather than military confrontation.
Focus on Building a Prosperous Region
Looking toward the future, Iranian officials say that the ultimate goal should be building a stable and prosperous Middle East.
They argue that ending the current conflict and reducing tensions between regional powers would allow countries to concentrate on economic development, trade, and cooperation.
For now, however, the situation remains uncertain as diplomatic efforts continue alongside ongoing military tensions in the region.
